"Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. This girl followed Paul and the rest of us shouting, 'These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.' She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, 'In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!' At once the spirit left her. When the owners of the slave girl realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into court to face the authorities" (Acts 16:16-19). While on his missionary journeys, the Apostle Paul suffered a great deal. He was stoned, beaten up, shipwrecked, arrested, and shackled for preaching the good news about Jesus Christ. Today, there are still thousands of missionaries throughout the world who face persecution continually.

Despite the hatred towards Christians in various countries, we still have an obligation given to us by Jesus to love our enemies, do good to those who hate us, bless those who curse us, and pray for those who mistreat us. By this, the world will see the light and come to an understanding that good always supercedes evil and that the power of love never fails. According to the World Evangelical Alliance, over 200 million Christians in over 60 countries are denied their basic rights because of their faith. In Saudi Arabia, there have been reports of fathers who have slaughtered their children for converting to Christianity. Tragic stories like this are heard repeatedly in places where the message of the gospel is prohibited. Our prayer team intercedes daily for all missionaries, especially for those who are currently located in hostile areas. |

According to Isaiah 61, we have been given the power to bind up the brokenhearted and proclaim freedom for prisoners and captives. Because of this power that has been given to us, we are capable of saving souls, changing lives, and healing the sick. Each day, thousands are comming to Christ as a result of the greater works that Jesus said we would do. Here at The Ernesto Alvarez Foundation, we are convinced that it is also because of your prayers that these miracles are happening. Your generous support is what sends our missionaries to the distant and remote parts of the world to deliver the message of hope. |
