Missionary Guide to Dangerous Encounters

Lions

Lions can be found in the grassland regions of Africa and India.  Lions live in groups called prides, which consists of up to 40 members.  Lions have an average life span of up to 13 years and weight up to 700 pounds.

Although Lions can easily devour a human, they mainly prey on baby elephants, baby rhinos, wilderbeasts, and zebras.  It is usually the female lion, the lioness that does most of the hunting, while the male lion spends his days resting.  Lioness hunt in together in teams.  The faster lioness chase the prey, while the stronger pride members prepare for the ambush.

A lioness can run as fast as 45 mph and can leap as high as 30 feet.  A lion's eyesight is five times sharper than a human's, and their eyes have a reflective layer that allow them to see see at night.  A lion's jaw muscles are strong enough to suffocate a giraffe.  Their claws are sharp enough to slice through the windpipe of a crocodile.  It's no wonder why such a magnificant creature has earned the title, King of the Beast.

Lion facts

Although lions rest aproximately 20 hours a day, they are powerful enough to run as fast as 40 mph. The secret to the Lion's king ship is that they are more powerful when they are rested.  Similar to the lion, our bodies fatigue and our brains weaken our ability to make wise decisions when we are not well rested. As the lion has a naturally relaxed daily rhythm, we too ought to have a healthy, relaxed, and balanced life where we store our energy for moments that really matter.  "He restores my soul; He leads me in the path of righteousness for His name's sake" (Psalm 23:3).

More important than your donations are your prayers.  Our missionary teams are in need of rest.  Exhaustion often happens in the lives of those who are passionately diligent in what they do.   It is essential for all missionaries to be well rested so that their ears  remain attuned to the direction of God's calling.  Partner with us today in your prayers and in your gifts of appreciation.
